Danglies 2010

I've been slow getting back into the swing of things after my last vacation, but finally got moving again.

Every year in my art group's Dec. show, we set up a bare-branched tree that gets covered in a variety of artist ornaments. It's one of my favorite things in our show, and I love to participate. In the past years I've made houses, birds, and hearts. This year after collecting many pictures of owls out of catalogs and seeing these and these which I love, I decided to play with my own.

Lots of tufts of texture and graffiti fabrics as I pulled from my favorite elements:

Took quite a few false starts, but I'm finally happy with these funky little guys:

I'm also considering doing a second ornament this year using painted faces, but they still have a long way to go until I'm happy with them:

Oh I love your owls--put a sold sign on a polkie dottie one for me! Am curious to see where your 'faces on balls' go...lol! But seriously, we're already talking about December?? I can't even handle that we're in August already--I want summer first! OY...

What fun ideas you have going on here. I love the bare-branched display idea to show off the artist's creations in December. Of course I adore those hearts you make, and I'd never seen your delightful birds before. I think your owls are wonderfully funky. Nice to see where you took some inspiration on those other blogs. A lovely little morning romp with my 2nd cup of coffee in hand.

Yes, it's awful to think of Dec. when we are having perfect summer days right now. But as soon as I have an idea down for my dangly, I breathe much easier and just play with it here and there for a few months.

Maybe we could do an owl swap????

Beautiful Robin.

Jackie--I would love to do an owl swap with you! I'm trying my hardest not to copy yours outright--they are still some of my all time favorite owls!

Thanks Paula. I will keep playing with the faces. I'm just at that stage of wondering if things will ever work out, but then that's pretty much a normal stage for me to go through.

Your funky little owl guys are fabulous (and I already know I want to buy one!). I can't wait to see how you develop your ornament faces, too, because you have such a way with making faces vibrant and interesting.
